Biography

Stella is a multidisciplinary artist working with a variety of mediums such as photography, paint and ink, sculpture, jewellery, and the written word.  Living in creative communities and finding inspiration in nature, Stella's creative upbringing in New Zealand, Aotearoa, has always remained close to her heart. With a skilled photography practice being central to her arts practice, she is passionate about using imagery to share stories. Her work often offers critique into human nature and explores with curiosity our interactions with time, place and the natural world. Training in yoga since the early age of 15, and continuing in training and teaching, Stella's interest in yogic philosophy, mindfulness, mediation and psychology, influence her artworks and the way she approaches creative projects.

Stella’s images encourage pause and reflection, she creates honest images that embrace a sense of belonging. By remaining mindful of the compelling topics of our times, Stella's works offer an opportunity to reflect on our relationships with nature, ourselves, and others.

In Portrait and Family Photography, finding that magic exists when full presence is shared, Stella aims to capture those little moments with care. Stella enjoys helping local brands by creating content to share their personal and brand stories in a visual way.

Stella has exhibited photographic works at the Blue Mountains Portrait Prize (2018, 2019), Out of the Fire: Resilience in the Face of Natural Disaster (2020), Retopia Gallery (2021) and most recently, a solo exhibition at The Old Pacific (2022). Stella’s works in group exhibitions reflect on our experiences as a community, and our connection to the environment.

More broadly, Stella is passionate about inviting new ideas and engaging in conversations about how to apply arts practices to topics that are relevant to society today.

Her inspiration to create often ensues a yoga practice and a walk along one of Byron Bay's beautiful beaches or a hike in the Blue Mountains National Park.
